Comparison

Workforce AI Security Essentials vs Enterprise: which tier do you need?

Both tiers discover, govern and protect employee AI use. The difference is where: the browser only, or the browser, the desktop, the developer's editor and the agent.

In short

Workforce AI Security Essentials covers AI used through web applications, deployed with a browser extension. Enterprise covers web and desktop AI apps, developer code assistants in IDEs, and AI agents and MCP, using the extension plus a desktop agent. Both include discovery, governance and protection. Choose Enterprise if staff use desktop AI, coding assistants or agents.

The short answer

The choice comes down to where your people use AI:

Most organisations do not know for certain which group they are in until they look. That is why we suggest discovery before you commit. Both tiers sit within Check Point Workforce AI Security; for the mechanics, see how Workforce AI Security works.

Questions that decide the tier

Work through these with whoever knows how your teams use AI (or run a discovery pilot and let the data answer them):

  1. Do any staff use desktop AI apps? Desktop chat apps, AI command-line tools or AI assistants installed on laptops. If yes, Enterprise.
  2. Do you have developers, data analysts or IT staff using coding assistants? GitHub Copilot, Cursor or AI features in their editors. If yes, Enterprise.
  3. Are people connecting AI agents to company systems? Agents that read mailboxes, files or tickets, or MCP servers installed by individual users. If yes, Enterprise.
  4. Are your devices and browsers managed? Essentials relies on the browser extension being present, so unmanaged browsers are a gap for either tier and need a policy decision.
  5. What data would hurt most if it leaked? If it is source code or credentials, the developer coverage in Enterprise matters more.
  6. What are you replacing? If you have GenAI Protect today, Check Point names Essentials as the migration path; check whether that covers everything you now need.

If every answer points to the browser, Essentials is a sensible, lighter starting point. If even one points beyond it, the gap is real and Enterprise closes it.

Common scenarios

Some generic examples of how the choice tends to fall:

ScenarioLikely tierWhy
Office-based firm, staff use one approved AI assistant in the browser, no developersEssentialsAI use is web-based; the job is controlling personal accounts and data in prompts
Business with an in-house software team using coding assistantsEnterpriseSource code and credentials flow through IDE assistants that Essentials does not see
Organisation piloting AI agents connected to email and filesEnterpriseAgent and MCP governance is only in Enterprise
Existing GenAI Protect customer happy with browser-only controlEssentialsCheck Point names Essentials as the migration path
Regulated organisation that needs one audit trail for all AI useEnterpriseCoverage across web, desktop, IDEs and agents gives the fullest record

These are starting points, not rules. Your own discovery data is the better guide.

Weighing up the options?

We can compare them against your own requirements and give you a straight answer.

Can you start with Essentials and move up later?

Moving between tiers is a licensing conversation, and Check Point sets those rules, so we confirm the options at quote rather than promise them here. What we can say is that the two tiers share the same model: the same Check Point Portal, the same discovery, the same policy layers. The work you do on policy with Essentials, such as which tools to approve and which data types to redact, carries straight over in principle, because Enterprise adds coverage rather than a different way of working.

If you choose Essentials, keep an eye on the signs that you have outgrown it: developers asking for AI assistants, desktop AI apps appearing in your software inventory, or teams experimenting with agents. Our AI security risks guide covers why those matter.

How Forever Systems helps you choose

We help you choose on evidence rather than guesswork:

  1. Talk it through. A short conversation about your teams, devices and current AI tools.
  2. Look at the data. Where it helps, a discovery pilot shows what AI is really in use, including desktop apps and agents.
  3. Recommend a tier. Essentials, Enterprise, or a view on whether different groups need different coverage, with the reasons.
  4. Quote. Based on users, tier and term, with entitlements confirmed against Check Point's current terms.

How Forever Systems helps you use AI safely

We are an independent UK IT and cyber security provider. We supply Check Point Workforce AI Security and help organisations put sensible, workable rules around AI at work.

  • See what is really in use: we can start with a discovery pilot, so you know which AI tools, browser extensions, coding assistants and agents your people use before anyone writes rules
  • Policy you can enforce: we help you decide what to approve, restrict or block, and turn your AI acceptable use policy into Workforce AI Security policies
  • The right tier: Essentials for browser-based AI, Enterprise when desktop apps, developer code assistants and agents are in the picture, confirmed at quote
  • Staged roll-out: from monitoring to warnings, redaction and blocking at a pace your people can absorb, with reviews along the way
  • Around the tool: Microsoft 365 permissions ahead of Copilot, device management for the extension and agent, and safe use of AI training for staff

We work with businesses, schools, charities and public sector organisations. Our guides are general information, not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Workforce AI Security Essentials and Enterprise?

Essentials covers AI used through web applications, using a browser extension. Enterprise covers web and desktop AI apps, developer code assistants and IDEs, and AI agents and MCP, using the browser extension plus a desktop agent. Both include discovery, governance and protection.

Do both tiers include data loss prevention?

Yes. Check Point describes both tiers as including discovery, governance and protection; the difference is the coverage. Essentials protects AI used in web applications, while Enterprise extends protection to desktop apps, IDEs and agents.

Which tier covers GitHub Copilot?

Enterprise. Check Point names GitHub Copilot and Cursor as code assistants covered by Workforce AI Security, and developer tools and IDEs are listed only under Enterprise coverage.

Which tier do I need if I only use ChatGPT in the browser?

Essentials covers ChatGPT and other AI tools used through a web browser. If anyone uses the ChatGPT desktop app, coding assistants or agents, you would need Enterprise to cover that activity.

Can we mix Essentials and Enterprise licences?

Licensing rules are set by Check Point and can change, so we check what is possible for your organisation when we quote rather than assume it.
